I'm willing to believe this is a cdrom drive going south, but it plays audio cds just fine. I've reproduced the copying problem with both original cds (RedHat 5.2 CD) and CDRs I made myself. Copying a cd from the CDROM drive fails, but the same copy from the CDRW drive succeeds.
[1.] One line summary of the problem: cp -a from cdrom to hard drive produces lost interrupt message [2.] Full description of the problem/report: I put a cd into cdrom drive and mount it. I then issue the command: cp -a /mnt/cdrom/* /mnt/rw1 The copy proceeds normally for some variable amount of bytes before producing the following output in /var/log/messages: Apr 2 12:49:11 localhost kernel: hdb: DSC timeout Apr 2 12:49:21 localhost kernel: hdb: lost interrupt Apr 2 12:49:21 localhost kernel: hdb: cdrom_read_intr: data underrun (4 blocks) Apr 2 12:49:21 localhost kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 03:40 (hdb), sector 102860 Apr 2 12:49:32 localhost kernel: hdb: lost interrupt Apr 2 12:49:32 localhost kernel: hdb: cdrom_read_intr: data underrun (4 blocks) Apr 2 12:49:32 localhost kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 03:40 (hdb), sector 102864
At this point no more bytes are copied and I get a continuing series of the above messages. After some time I'm able to kill the cp command and unmount the cdrom, but I'm unable to eject the cd. The drive light continues blinking and I'm forced to reboot to stop it.
