We run a news server here with a similar configuration. Its a P90 w/64MB, and a NCR53c810 in it. No noticable problems.
Configuration:
guysmiley-root:~$ cat /proc/scsi/scsi Attached devices: Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: IBM Model: DSAS-3720 !b Rev: S47Y Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 00 Vendor: CONNER Model: CFP4207S 4.28GB Rev: 2847 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 00 Vendor: SEAGATE Model: ST15150N Rev: 0023 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
guysmiley-root:~$ uname -a Linux guysmiley.blarg.net 2.0.8 #2 Tue Aug 6 21:32:50 PDT 1996 i586
guysmiley-root:~$ uptime 9:08pm up 13 days, 22:50, 1 user, load average: 1.01, 0.86, 0.89

This machine usually has >30 day uptimes before rebooting. This last reboot was due to a disk crash (damn HP disks). This is a pretty reliable configuration and we're using similar SCSI configurations across our entire network (8 other machines). Note that all but our terminal server is now running 2.0.8, which is the most stable that we've found in the 2.0.x series. The terminal server is a 1.2.14(unofficial) as we had nothing but problems with 2.0.x and Cyclades.
As with anything, YMMV, it seems.
