It fails the same place that 2.1.102 make menuconfig fails....
[root@blackbird /usr/src/linux]# make menuconfig rm -f include/asm ( cd include ; ln -sf asm-i386 asm) gcc -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -o scripts/split-include scripts/split-include.c make -C scripts/lxdialog all make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.1.101/scripts/lxdialog' gcc -O2 -Wall -fomit-frame-pointer -DLOCALE -I/usr/include/ncurses -DCURSES_LOC="<ncurses/curses.h>" -c lxdialog.c -o lxdialog.o gcc -O2 -Wall -fomit-frame-pointer -DLOCALE -I/usr/include/ncurses -DCURSES_LOC="<ncurses/curses.h>" -c checklist.c -o checklist.o gcc -O2 -Wall -fomit-frame-pointer -DLOCALE -I/usr/include/ncurses -DCURSES_LOC="<ncurses/curses.h>" -c menubox.c -o menubox.o gcc -O2 -Wall -fomit-frame-pointer -DLOCALE -I/usr/include/ncurses -DCURSES_LOC="<ncurses/curses.h>" -c textbox.c -o textbox.o gcc -O2 -Wall -fomit-frame-pointer -DLOCALE -I/usr/include/ncurses -DCURSES_LOC="<ncurses/curses.h>" -c yesno.c -o yesno.o gcc -O2 -Wall -fomit-frame-pointer -DLOCALE -I/usr/include/ncurses -DCURSES_LOC="<ncurses/curses.h>" -c inputbox.c -o inputbox.o gcc -O2 -Wall -fomit-frame-pointer -DLOCALE -I/usr/include/ncurses -DCURSES_LOC="<ncurses/curses.h>" -c util.c -o util.o gcc -O2 -Wall -fomit-frame-pointer -DLOCALE -I/usr/include/ncurses -DCURSES_LOC="<ncurses/curses.h>" -c msgbox.c -o msgbox.o gcc -s -L . lxdialog.o checklist.o menubox.o textbox.o yesno.o inputbox.o util.o msgbox.o -lncurses -o lxdialog make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.1.101/scripts/lxdialog' /bin/sh scripts/Menuconfig arch/i386/config.in Using defaults found in .config Preparing configuration scripts: version, functions, parsing
and just hangs.
menuconfig worked for me in 2.1.101.
The computer is Intel P-100 glibc-2.0.7-7 ncurses-devel-1.9.9e-8 gcc-2.7.2.3-8
Looked throught the documentation but I can't seem to find anything on it. Ideas (other than using make xconfig - I'm going to do that :) )
Chris
On another note, I would like to thank the people who responded with a quick answer to my SMP question the other day.
"John G. Alvord" <jalvo@cloud9.net> Michael Elizabeth Chastain <mec@shout.net>
On a slightly less positive note "Peter T. Breuer" <ptb@it.uc3m.es> argued with me on 2 page long emails suggesting that I should not have posted such a ridiculous question to the linux-kernel mailing list. While I agree with him that my question was not a difficult one, I disagree that the kernel mailing list is not a place to ask weither or not the SMP=1 referred to number of processors or a switch to build a SMP kernel. The reason he said I should not post such things here was that the list generates alot of traffic (150 emails / day). So hitting "d" is much more time consuming than writing page long emails? (flame away peter)
Anyways thanks to John and Michael for their quick direct responses. And to all others that have helped me in the past.
Chris
