Booting has halted twice at same point, using 2.6.0-test5 and today with 2.6.0-test5-mm4 plus Viro's patch for init/do_mounts.h. After reset the machine boots normally, and shows no signs of hardware issues, nor did this ever happen with 2.6.0-test4{,-mm5}.

Hardware is dual Athlon-MP, AMD760 chipset on MSI-K7D Master motherboard. There's no SCSI card though have IDE SCSI emulation and the SCSI ADVANSYS driver compiled as modules. A normal boot gives dmesg output (2.6.0-test5 was compiled with gcc-3.2) :
