[2.] Full description of the problem/report: I use PL-2303 USB to Serial converter to connect to the modem, which connects to the internet. When I accidentally disconnected that USB device (I thought I was disconnecting the Laptop's battery cable :-), kernel oopsed.

[6.] A small shell script or example program which triggers the problem (if possible) Just connect to the internet, let the ppp interface get activated, then disconnect the USB device, kernel should oops (the local telephone calls are a bit expensive, hence I'm unable to verify if this behavior is repetitive).
