Subjectscsi errors on CD change
Date
Hi All,
(Please CC me with reply , 'cause i am not a member of the list)

I got the following situation:

I installed kernel 2.4.0-test5 (and patched it later to test6 which didn't solve the problem). All works fine except the following:

I started without a cd inserted in /dec/scd0.

After starting the Gnome or KDE WM my system starts throwing huge amounts of the following messages to my /var/log/messages file:

Aug 21 23:23:00 target kernel: sym53c875E-0-<5,0>: sync msgout: 1-3-1-c-10.
Aug 21 23:23:00 target kernel: sym53c875E-0-<5,0>: sync msg in: 1-3-1-19-8.
Aug 21 23:23:00 target kernel: sym53c875E-0-<5,0>: sync: per=25 scntl3=0x30 scntl4=0x0 ofs=8 fak=0 chg=0.

This block is repeated constantly with exact the same content till i quit the WM.
I also see an occasional " VFS: Disk change detected on device sr(11,0)"

(Note: sym53c875E-0-<5,0> points to my Plextor (re)writer)

The second situation with the same thing:
0. started linux 2.4.0test6
1. mounted iso9660 software cdrom on /dev/scd0
2. started KDE
3. things stay normal, KDE filemanager starts, no problem
4. umount /dev/scd0 : no problem
5. eject -s /dev/scd0 : Bingo, messages all over the place.
6. inserted a music cdrom : errors stopped. KDE cdplayer starts.

So apparantly the kernel looses track of the status of my CD-RW drive.

I hope anyone can help me out here.... please let me know if more info is required.

Regards,
Sander Dol
