Not so pessimistic. And not so vague.
Deadlock is a global problem, a problem in the interaction of subsystems. It can be subtle. Not being able to unmount sounds like a local problem - perhaps easy to fix, especially if you can come up with a sequence of commands that reproducibly evokes it.
