At work i have a Toshiba 4090CDS Laptop with a single ethernet card (uses 8390 module i think). I have no other cards. Using kernel 2.4.0-test4 and all previous, i can boot the machine and it will detect the card if it is plugged into either of the 2 slots (0 or 1). However, with 2.4.0-test6 (and maybe test5 not tested fully yet but can do) the card only gets detected if it is instaled in slot 0. It does not make any difference if you boot with the card in place or put it in after booting.
Might be interesting to someone !
