Subject[OOPS] 2.4.0-test12 with heavy file manipulation
(please CC me when replying as I follow this list on the Web)

[1.] One line summary of the problem:
2.4.0-test12 non-fatal oops while copying files or doing shell file name
completion.

[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
With 2.4.0-test12, I got a non reproducible oops after having compiled
XFree 4.0.2 from CVS and copying files and doing shell file name completion.
Even after oopsing, I could ssh on this machine and still type 'ls' or
things like this but completion would oops one more time, then, with the
time, 'uptime' would oops too, and ssh wouldn't work anymore.
Ctrl-Alt-Del on the console would oops again and again so I was forced
to power off the machine manually (ext2 wasn't corrupt when I rebooted,
a simple fsck and the machine actually runs fine).

I suspect it deals with ext2 filesystem manipulation as this kernel
oopsed after compiling XFree 4.0.2 and Mesa 3.4, copying various
TrueType fonts in a directory on the same ext2 filesystem.

I've been testing every 2.4.0 kernel since test1 and all of them ran
successfully on this machine.

[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel):
ext2, filesystem

[4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version):
Linux version 2.4.0-test12 (root@pc2) (gcc version egcs-2.91.66
19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)) #1 mar déc 12 16:13:44 GMT-5 2000

[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information
resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt)

I had several other forthcoming oops on the same machine after this
first oops (when keeping on doing completion things, typing 'uptime' and
hitting 'Ctrl-Alt-Del'). As this is my first oops report, I don't know
if all of the oops are relevant, mail me if you need the others (I have
a 70KB file with oops).
