Hello,
we are running a kernel version 2.0.36 on a Slackware 3.5 for doing gateway stuff (IP masquerading over ISDN for mail, name service, http) and file service for 3 Solaris boxes, 1 Linux (RedHat 5.0) and 7 Windows NT machines via samba.
We have experienced 3 "problems" (since January, the last one this afternoon) on similar cases: a windows box copies a lot of files through the network from the Linux server. Apparently the network driver dies (cf the syslog messages). Today I have managed to restart the service by removing the interface (eth0), then the module (ne.o) and reloading the module then reconfigure the interface: the machine seems to be working fine since these operations.
Any similar experiences? Could it be a hardware problem (we have not yet tried to replace the network card [an ISA NE2000 clone])?
Thanks for your help, Yves.
Syslog trace for the 3 "Aiee":
