SubjectOops in 2.3.9pre5: Running lilo on fresh boot

i586 UP, egcs-19990623, binutils-2.9.4.0.6. Booted 2.3.9pre5 to run lilo
(somehow, the table for 2.3.6 had gotten mixed up: crc error) and was
greeted with:
