what about sendfile() for copying ? or rename() for moving a directory
tree ? if rename() can't do it, you're on different filesystems and that'd
require locking both. hairy..

that's why you have libraries. "nicety" has little to do with the kernel.

that's why I suggested the "low latency services" as something between
kernel and userland, if this is deemed necessary.
