I have a RedHat 5.2 install upgraded with the kernel-2.2 rpms
[root@saqqara thoth]# rpm -q -f /sbin/fdisk util-linux-2.9-0
[root@saqqara thoth]# fdisk -v fdisk v2.9
[root@saqqara thoth]# uname -a Linux saqqara.purplefrog.com 2.2.1 #1 Sat Feb 20 14:59:55 EST 1999 i586 unknown
... extract from dmesg ...
hda: hda1 hda2 hda3 < hda5 hda6 hda7 > hda4 hdb: hdb1 hdb2 hdb3
hda3 is a Win94 Extended partition containing an 11+G FAT32 partition (hda5), and a 128M partition that eventually I will use for swap (hda6). I say "eventually" because right now fdisk can't figure out what the hell is going on. hda3, 5, and 6 were created with Win95 fdisk. hda7 is a hallucination of the 2.2.1 kernel. Here's what fdisk says:
[root@saqqara thoth]# fdisk -l Warning: ignoring extra data in partition table 6 Warning: ignoring extra data in partition table 6 Warning: ignoring extra data in partition table 6
Disk /dev/hda: 16 heads, 63 sectors, 26197 cylinders Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hda1 1 21 10552+ 83 Linux native /dev/hda2 * 22 1037 512064 e Win95 FAT16 (LBA) /dev/hda3 1039 24674 11912544 f Win95 Extended (LBA) /dev/hda4 24675 26197 767592 83 Linux native /dev/hda5 1039 24414 11781472+ b Win95 FAT32 /dev/hda6 ? 549980 1657257558067695+ bf Unknown
/dev/hda6 is clearly WRONG!
Do I need a more recent version of fdisk? Is the kernel busted? Give me a URL that I can read to solve it myself. If it's a misfeature of linux or fdisk I'm willing to provide extracts from my hard drive to anyone manly enough to address this problem.
I am not a subscriber of linux-kernel.
