Subject2.1.115 3COM 3C509 + SMP Oddities

System Info:

Asus P2L77 Dual P2 Motherboard
2 Intel P2 300mhz processors
3com 3c509 NIC
LAN is Co-ax

Problem: This has definatly got me beat.

1) 2.1.115 UP kernel, everything runs fine. 0.8ms ping times on my LAN

2) 2.1.115 SMP kernel, the 3com card performance is total crap. We're
talking 500-4000ms ping times on my LAN, and the boxes are 6 feet apart.

3) 2.0.35 SMP kernel, everything fine again.

I patched in Donald Beckers v1.16 driver for the 3c509, same problems.
Also tried compiling it as a module, and built into the kernel, with the
same results.

Anyone got a clue as to what's going on here? I checked the SMP Faq, and
the board is supported.

Ken
