It's possible to do loadable filesystems, but we still can't have our root filesystem as a module.
For framebuffers, it's not quite so difficult, though - you can, I believe, use a generic framebuffer to boot with, and load the specific driver for your card afterwards. As long as your card can manage either text modes or a VESA mode with linear framebuffer, you can use the existing support at boot time, and load your new driver immediately afterwards.
