Linux 2.0 doesnt build correctly with egcs/gcc-2.8. Its almost certainly entirely kernel issues but finding them all and fixing them for 2.0 is too hard. If you want to build kernels with egcs/gcc-2.8 use 2.1.11x and be prepared to rebuild with an old gcc if you see something funny so compiler and kernel bugs can be found.
All bug reports for 2.0.x and gcc >2.7.2-3 go into /dev/null
