Subject2.1.105 programs freeze, kernel continues to respond
When I mistakenly started a second instance of PINE, it said "Opening
"INBOX"" then its spinning bar stopped spinning. All other programs I was
running (vi, ssh, mingetty, and some shells) also stopped responding:
input from the keyboard was not echoed from ssh; control-Z did not
suspend vi; in mingetty I could type my name at the login prompt but was
not prompted for my password. I was able to switch consoles. When I
pressed control-Scroll Lock, kswapd was aways listed as "current" and had
al f's in the third sig: field (I do not have any swap space set up).
Shift-Scroll Lock said "Swap cache: add 0/0, delete 0/0, find 0/0".

This was on a Pentium PC with 64 MB of RAM. My configuration file is at
http://jpj.net/~trevor/linux/config-2.1.105-topside.gz .
