Subject2.1.103: Got lots of "VM: Found a writable swap-cached page!"
Hi,

I just got a bunch of "VM: Found a writable swap-cached page!" messages in my
syslog luckily I had Bill Hawes' diagnostic patch in place.
Attached is the relevant part of my syslog file (5k gzipped)

When these messages appeared the machine had been up for 1h20m
I was running X with 4 virtual desks, PPP-link was up, I had Xfmail 1.3,
2xwine980601/Agent 1.5, Netscape Navigator 4.04, Xisp and several rxvt's
running.
The machine was more sluggish (swapping) than it normally is with this setup
(which is about the same every evening when I'm on the net)
Also before this I had compiled a 2.1.104 kernel which may have triggered the
sluggier-than-usual thing?
Machine is a P133 with 48Mb of Ram and 50Mb of Swap, root is on a IBM
DCAS-34330W SCSI disk, controller is Ncr53c875 based (BSD driver), I also have
3 IDE drives (swap is on one of them)
Memory according to top: (if you wan't more stats next time this happens, then
tell me what to do)
46Mb Main used
33Mb Swap used
900K Main free
18Mb Swap free
12Mb Shared
10Mb Cached
1.2Mb Buffer

After killing Netscape and the 2 Wine/Agent processes it stopped spewing
out these messages some seconds later.

Kernel was 2.1.103 + arch386_ldt103.v2, char_select103, fork_files103,
misc_net_fixes-103, mlock_103-patch, mmap_103-patch.v2, net_frag103-patch,
net_tcp103-patch, nfsd_103-patch.v2, pipe_103-patch, swap_103-patch,
swap_vm103-patch and vt-fix-103
Kernel was compiled with gcc 2.7.2.3 and binutils 2.9.1.0.4 (glibc2 system)

I know this is an awful lot of patches, but I have had these messages happen
before on similar occasions with several 2.1.9x kernels (I posted a report for
2.1.91 on the 29th of March describing similar conditions)

If there is anything more I can do to help track down this bug please just say
so and I will be at your service.

Ps. I will be off the net from Tuesday to Thursday this week.
