Hi.
Most of the trouble people appear to be having is finding out which kernel they are actually running. The following proposal makes it possible to identify the kernel build with nearly 100% guarantee, without adding any (well, couple of bytes perhaps) overhead.
Would it not be possible to generate an md5sum over the combined $(ARCHIVES), $(FILESYSTEMS), $(DRIVERS) and $(LIBS) and put that in init/version.c, and bang that md5sum somewhere under /proc?
At the same time this sum can be prepended to config and System.Map.
Or am I being silly here?
Cheers Michiel
