On further testing I find the following when doing a flood ping:
eth0: transmit timed out, Tx_status 00 status 2000 Tx FIFO room 1496. eth0: transmit timed out, Tx_status 00 status 2000 Tx FIFO room 4092. eth0: transmit timed out, Tx_status 00 status 2000 Tx FIFO room 4092. eth0: transmit timed out, Tx_status 00 status 2000 Tx FIFO room 4092. eth0: transmit timed out, Tx_status 00 status 2000 Tx FIFO room 1496.
and this from ifconfig:
eth0 Link encap:10Mbps Ethernet HWaddr 00:A0:24:5A:E1:FA inet addr:172.16.1.1 Bcast:172.16.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:238839 dropped:0 overruns:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 Interrupt:5 Base address:0x300
No packets but 238839 errors? The are being sent out over the network. Either I'm not understanding something or there is some strangeness here...
Hardware:
Supermicro P6DNE Bt-958 3com 509 dual PPro 150
