I don't want to set goals, because goals change, and I've been happier being more fluid. However I agree with you 100% that the 2.1 series was _way_ too long. I'd be happier with a 2.3 that was half the length or less.

That's what has always happened with a stable release: there's a idle period when we try to make sure it really _is_ stable, but that is then followed by a flurry of largish patches in the development release that contains a lot of pent-up patch energy.
Other developers can help a faster cycle by simply trying to be more vocal in requesting code-freezes, and less vocal in the requests for "yet another feature" once I announce one.
But yes, I'll do my best to try to make 2.3 be shorter,
