I nice idea, but it is not always possible or practical. If one does not have a dedicated computer always up and running, where does one run the IMAP server to manage the files in one's NFS-mounted home directory, to which one's private procmail recipes are delivering from time to time?
Ok, it can all be set up somehow, but sometimes just treating files as files is the easier thing.
