What compiler are you using? It seems that my patch (and
in particular Richard's piece) adds some nice cases of
pointer magic to the kernel. The rest of the patch doesn't
contain any dangerous code.

I am using mount-2.8a with glibc2.0.6 and egcs-1.0.3a.

Does explicitly mounting /proc work?
