SubjectUDMA irq timeout?
Date

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could explain what this kernel message means,
and why it is occuring.

hda: irq timeout: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }
hda: disabled DMA
ide0: reset: success

as a little background, I've been having problems with my computer, that I
think might be pnp related, as my UDMA disk stop'd working in UDMA mode,
when I add'd a few PCI cards (a 2940U and 3c905) to my system. Win98 is no
help in diagnosing what went wrong, as it just hangs forever trying to do
UDMA, until you boot into safe mode and hack the registry to remove the DMA
switch. the kernel at least gives me an inkling on what's wrong, with the
above error message, I just don't understand it completly.

this info might be of use to understand my system (taken from win98's
sysinfo utility)

I can probably unallocate com2 and the usb port's IRQ's to gain 2 more IRQs
back, if the problem lies there. Any help for diagnosing that kernel
message, and getting UDMA working linux again would be appreciated. Oh, my
motherboard is a tekram p6b40-a4x, with their latest (1.04) bios, and a
Maxtor 2880 drive.

TIA,

Shaya Potter
