I think you should cause mmap() to fail if used on the > real-time-bit-converted channel. > Yes, but since this is in the upper level ( I have already modified audio.c) it would require to put a new field in device->dmap ( only in the dmap_out ) to indicate bit conversion is happening, meaning this device can't be mmaped.
Another options would be: Convert the mmapped buffer! Find out if sb16 can do 16-16 rather than 8-16 or 16-8.
I have the creative pdf describing the hardware but haven't had a look into it. This next weekend!
