Hi,
Maybe Linux is becomming too big, and will continue to grow, because it is more a collection of driver than a strictly minimum kernel.
Maybe Linux should just include in its release: - memory managment - tasks managment - interrupt/DMA/SMP managment - module managment - Virtual File System - Virtual sound system - Virtual Char Driver (to be invented) - Virtual Block Driver (to be invented) - Virtual Screen Driver - Virtual Charset mapping - Virtual Network protocol (?)
And other(s) (maybe parallel) distribution(s) would include each other compoments - some been processor dependant, some been maintained by commercial company, some been maintained by individual and those been unmaintained.
Maybe Linus would like to maintain the Linux minimum core plus some "blocks" of the second distribution - at least one of each Virtual blocks - as he wish, and someone else/a group (maybe commercial) would take the responsability of the second distribution(s) - including "public relation" as we call that in France. This second group would be in a position to talk about UDI projects or directly to hardware manufacturer.
Maybe I should not write so much to spare bandwidth... Etienne.
