SubjectDisk quotas in 2.1.79
Date
From
...do they work at all?

I need to start looking into using quotas as we slip linux systems ever
deeper into our network infrastructure. So I set up a new partition on my
2.1.79 system and tried to enable quotas, following the steps in the mini
HOWTO.

What happens is that quota-related processes (i.e. 'repquota') go into
uninterruptible "D" waits; strace says it happens in 'quotactl'. It looks
very much as if the internal locking on the quota structures is getting
messed up. With 2.1.78 things would wedge immediately; in 2.1.79 it
appears to work for a while before something hangs.

Before I get too deep into tracking this down, can anybody tell me whether
(1) this is a known problem, being worked on, or (2) if there is something
else I might have done wrong?

Thanks,
jon
