Subjectstrange messages in system log in 2.1.79 (modprobe: can't locate ...)

Since upgrading to Linux 2.1.79, I've been getting some odd
messages in my log --- well, they weren't there before.

Jan 13 14:27:51 max1-9 modprobe: can't locate module P^Q^B@@4
Jan 13 14:28:40 max1-9 modprobe: can't locate module P^Q^A@@4

Note that these don't occur often -- I've only got about 8 or
9 of them in my log. They ALL occur directly after the system
runs pidentd (started by inetd/tcpd). Some websites trigger
this, and most IRC servers do.

Not complaining, just reporting...
