Compressing with gzip is prob. too costly.. Anyone know any easy
compress and hard decompress algs for english text?

Why? Compressing it before exploding it would I should think make the
overall load sufficiently lower because the outgoing mail would be lighter.

Compressing it for each and every recipient would, however, be horrendous.
