This fixes the sound stuff at least enough to get xconfig to run and to compile SB AWE32 support into the kernel. AWE32 Synth upgraded to 0.4.2c in the process. Still doesn't work as modules, but then that's hardly surprising, given the state of it all :)
The other thing I forgot to remove before making the diff is a small patch to allow console devices to be registered and unregistered by modules. Currently the only module which uses this is the MDA display driver, which isn't even with the kernel. I'm working on a printer patch, too, which will allow oopses etc. to be sent to a parallel printer synchronously. No more tedious copying down messages by hand :)
