SubjectLinux 1.3.78, Token Ring
From
Dear Linux gurus,

while Linux 1.3.78 compiled out of the box on my PC at home
(connected to the net but by SLIP...), I came across an
error message on the PC at my place of work, which is connected
to the net via a token ring card. The error message was:

make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/local/linux/kernel'
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/local/linux/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-strength-reduce -pipe -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586 -DMODVERSIONS -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -c ksyms.c
ksyms.c:350: macro `_basic_version' used with just one arg
ksyms.c:351: macro `_basic_version' used with just one arg
ksyms.c:350: `tr_setup' undeclared here (not in a function)
ksyms.c:350: initializer element for `symbol_table.symbol[190].addr' is not constant
ksyms.c:351: `tr_type_trans' undeclared here (not in a function)
ksyms.c:351: initializer element for `symbol_table.symbol[191].addr' is not constant
make[2]: *** [ksyms.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/linux/kernel'
make[1]: *** [first_rule] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/linux/kernel'
make: *** [linuxsubdirs] Error 2

Linux 1.3.77 could be compiled on this PC without any problems,
and works like a charm, so it seems that the changes between
1.3.77 and 1.3.78 have caused the failure of make.

I'm sorry, I haven't found the source of this problem,
but I'll continue trying to ;-).

Best wishes,

Ernst
