Subject2.4.0-test6 and building kernel using Debian 'make kpkg'

I've upgraded to 2.4.0-test6.prex.
When I use make-kpkg (the standard utility to build a kernel with Debian), it
doesn't install the modules as it did with 2.2.16 or 2.4.0-test5. I've to
install the debian kernel package then to install the modules with make
modules_install.

My system is Debian 2.1 with some upgrades to suit the minimal requirements of
the 2.3.xx and 2.4.0 kernels.
