I know 2.3.7 is supposed to be dangerous, but it looks like it is broken too. I compiled with gcc 2.7.2.3
linux/fs/minix/file.c linux/fs/fat/file.c and ntfs don't compile. The PIIX IDE driver doesn't compile either. Error messages for these are at the bottom of this mail.
Leaving out those filesystems and using generic pci ide gave me a working kernel used for posting this.
It oopses on swapon though. I realize this isn't the best oops report possible, but I had to write it down on paper as there was no logfiles. And ksymoops wouldn't compile, the file bfd.h is missing?
2.3.7 oopsed 3 times before hanging when executing swapon -a during boot. Using /proc/ksymoops the first oops was in __get_free_pages It looked like this: Activating swap... Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 0000004 tss.cr3=03e78000 %cr3=03e78000 *pde=0 OOPS:0002 EIP:0010:[<c0126a72>] EFLAGS 00010002 (<c0126a72> is in __get_free_pages) register contents not written on paper process swapon pid 11 process nr 8 stackpage c3e43000 stack c34e4e00c 00000000 00000015 00000001 .... call trace: function according to "sort < /proc/ksyms" c0123d9e put_cached_page c4800000 c0101c48 c480c000 c0101c48 c0123ff7 vmalloc c4800000
code 89 50 04 89 da 2b 15 90 5e 1c c0 89 d0 c1 e0 04 01 d0 89 c2
Please tell if there is anything more I could do to investigate this. Reproducing it should be easy enough, by running swapon.
