Was mkfs -t ext2 a zip disk when this oops occured. The zip disk is an old model, using the ppa stuff, and it is also slightly COD. Works pretty well under linux (although I just started using it two days ago) but under windows it's very annoying but still usable. The machine wasn't doing much else. It's a client to a couple NFS mounts, one is ro the other rw, but that's about it.
Didn't happen when I tried again, so...
