so 32bits plateforms doesnt use the same fs format than 64bits ones? you mean that a disc with a ext2fs formated on alpha cant be read on a x86 ?
i think that the kernel support the llseek and al operations and so a file may be as big as 2^64. but i dont know if any fs handle this kind of file.
