Are you sure you've got your lilo correctly pointing to the
kernel that's being made?
Check the 'image' line in lilo for the path, you can check what
vmlinuz was made bij make, by just checking the date of the vmlinuz
files... (vmlinuz files are generally located in / or in /boot/).
