Hi,
I thought Alan Cox explained recently that this is due to you using pgcc.
Do not use it - I would advise to use whatever comes pre-installed for you by default in Red Hat 6.1, i.e.
egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)
