Hello!
I've a problem with SMP in the current 2.2pre- and the later 2.1 kernels :-(
My configuration:
- GigaByte GA586DX with two P233-MMX - 64 MD EDO-RAM - Adaptec UW-SCSI on board - Matrox MIL II - SB AWE64 - NE2000 PCI - Teles 16.3c PNP ISDN card
The problem:
i.ex. I do a "make -j2 bzImage" it does not need much time until the CPU1 hangs. Looking into "/proc/interrupts" shows that the interrupts are frozen completely for CPU1.
Some seconds or minutes later only the counter value of int0 (timer) for CPU0 freezes, too.
Now its time to make an emergency unmount and reboot, because the machine will crash completely in the next time :-(
But this also happens if I'am doing nothing an the load is low. Only it needs more time until it crashes ...
What informatons are needed to find the buggy part of the kernel? What can I do to find the problem?
Windows-NT runs very well so I think that is not a problem of the hardware ...
Gerald
--- The box said "Requires Win95, NT, or better," and so I installed Linux.
