I realize this probably has nothing to do with your problem but I figured since we're on the tulip card discussion, I would ask this.
The Macronix-clone card support in the current drive (0.89H) seems to be knackered pretty well. It will run good for a couple hours but then it will get a packet that it seems to scribble into kernel memory, causing a rapid fire of colorful graphics and chain-reaction OPPS that never make it to syslogd.
I've ended up swapping this card with my original SMC EtherPower and this box (that I do e-mail/etc on) has been golden for the whole day. [shrug]
Otherwise the Macronix is a very robust card under other OSs, unfortunately for Linux.
