Subjectping -s 6546[5-8]

moin,

i just did an ping to my second computer to find out what the highest value
for the packetsize is.

here is my result:

weigon@weigon:/linux2/home/weigon/Mail > ping -s 65464 ostborn
PING ostborn.weigonsworld.de (192.168.2.3): 65464 data bytes
65472 bytes from 192.168.2.3: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=133.2 ms
65472 bytes from 192.168.2.3: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=131.5 ms
...

weigon@weigon:/linux2/home/weigon/Mail > ping -s 65465 ostborn
PING ostborn.weigonsworld.de (192.168.2.3): 65465 data bytes
65473 bytes from 192.168.2.3: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=134.3 ms
wrong data byte #65464 should be 0xb9 but was 0xb8
bf ab b6 35 76 90 c 0 8 9 a b c d e f 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19
1a 1b 1c 1d 1e 1f
...

same for "ping -s 6546[5-8] ostborn"

weigon@weigon:/linux2/home/weigon/Mail > ping -s 65469 ostborn
ping: packet size too large.


ping goes from linux-2.1.105 -> linux-2.1.99
PCI-ne2000 -> ISA-ne2000
