SubjectNe2000 bad card or broken 2.1.91 ne driver
Date
Hello dear All,

I have been running in trouble for some time from kernel 2.1.89 to kernel
2.1.91 (i have also checked out 2.0.33)

The problem was total freese after a day or two . . .
Just hung. No Sysreq, numlock etc :-(

Today, when it hangs, I don't turn my machine off, as I usually did before,
BUT I have just unplugged my ISA NE2000 card out of the motherboard!

I was very surprized, BUT my machie was back to life at this time!
I have started to receive some kernel messages about network failures, but
when i ifconfig eth0 down, rmmod ne, rmmod 8390,
all becomes just ok.

I have done sync, plugged the card back, and it hungs again.
When I unplugged it, it still hung . . . and I have to reboot.

I have only PCI S3 card and that NE2000 card.
P166 64M ram, IDE HDD (IBM DHEA 6,4Gig - really nice HDD)
Now, I have installed 3c509 card and it runs fine for some time.

Can it be a bad card or a bad ISA (but I have checked two motherboards, two
CPUs, two NE2000 cards, two S3s) or it is (was) the broken NE driver? (BUT I
have checked with 2.0.33 - the same effect!)

Any sugessions welcome! Thank you for your time . . .

WBR, Vladimir Senkov
