I'm running 2.1.90 compiled with egcs-2.91.14 980315 (gcc-2.8.0 release)) and binutils-2.8.1.0.21. Very often, when deleting some module of the system I get an oops like the following:
kfree: Bad obj c283c000 Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000 current->tss.cr3 = 0161c000, %cr3 = 0161c000 *pde = 00000000 Oops: 0002 CPU: 0 EIP: 0010:[<c011f293>] EFLAGS: 00010282 eax: 0000001b ebx: c283c000 ecx: 0000000d edx: 00000000 esi: c283c000 edi: 00000000 ebp: 00000000 esp: c15e9f58 ds: 0018 es: 0018 ss: 0018 Process rmmod (pid: 315, process nr: 5, stackpage=c15e9000) Stack: c018e063 c283c000 c283c000 c2835000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 c28376c7 c283c000 c2835000 c2836552 c283a640 c2836697 c283a640 c0115f30 c2835000 00000000 c15e9fbc c0115544 c2835000 00000000 c15e8000 00000000 Call Trace: [<c018e063>] [<c283c000>] [<c283c000>] [<c2835000>] [<c28376c7>] [<c283c000>] [<c2835000>] [<c2836552>] [<c283a640>] [<c2836697>] [<c283a640>] [<c0115f30>] [<c2835000>] [<c0115544>] [<c2835000>] [<c0109922>] Code: c7 05 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 83 c4 08 5b 5e 5f 5d 83 c4 08

This has happened to me when I still had kerneld running, and it tried to unload some modules, but modprobe -r, rmmod or kmod give the same.
Obviously, kfree is forcing an Oops so I can see what is going on.
After the above, I get:
[root@sleipnir /root]# lsmod Module Size Used by slip 7008 1 (autoclean) slhc 4392 1 (autoclean) [slip] lsmod: QM_INFO: No such file or directory
so the list of modules loaded is getting screwed up. This in turn prevents a clean shutdown (Thanks for the SysReq key! Saves the day...) -- Horst von Brand vonbrand@sleipnir.valparaiso.cl Casilla 9G, Viña del Mar, Chile +56 32 672616
