[gs]et_persist had been working quite nicely on my mixer levels for some time,
thank you very much.

Now I'm going to have to go back to pre-remove and post-install entries in
conf.modules, and put up with the resulting blast of noise between loading the
module and resetting the mixer to a sensible level.
