Hi,

After some attempts, I noticed the same errors re-occuring. The problems
occur only after a longer time. But: I have not tryed to run 'who', so I
think the problem lies somewhere else. I got the problem when trying to
run start up a ppp-link. Directly out of the logs:
Oct 20 22:30:40 cedric chat[2604]: ATDT3653906^M^M
Oct 20 22:30:40 cedric chat[2604]: CONNECT 115200^M
Oct 20 22:30:40 cedric chat[2604]: ^M
Oct 20 22:30:40 cedric chat[2604]: %% Unable to create EXEC - no memory or too many processes^M

That very last line has got the problem. Running some programs did trigger the
problem too, and free reported:
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 127608 124052 3556 6672 68180 32972
-/+ buffers/cache: 22900 104708
Swap: 214512 0 214512

But when trying to run 'bmv' (a slightly improved version by myself, because
the original was FAR too slow), I got exactly the same 'Memory exhausted'.

The problem may occur on at least 2.1.117/2.1.122 (SMP over Dual Pentium 200MMX).

So my main point: the problem may be in the kernel. As soon as I have time,
I'll try to find a reliable way to trigger the problem. For now, I hope this
gives a hint of what may be wrong.

Happy hacking,
Jos
