All, I don't even touch the keyboard for Digital StrongARM customers unless they're going to buy 1000's of chips. For Linux I hack at 3am. Don't underestimate the power of creative anarchy. Also, there are a lot of Linux support specialists, large and small and most of the commercial Linux suppliers offer varying degrees of support depending on your ability to pay. What you are describing as support is the need for customers to shout at someone when things go wrong (it does't matter who).
