I've found that autoloading of the modules is broken right after running 'depmod -a'. I *always* have to make these changes to the "modules.dep" file in order to get autoloading to work right. It has been like this through every kernel I've used kerneld with; from 2.0.0 on through.
It is always these similar changes; only the `uname -r` is different.
