This is i586, egcs-971207; libc-2.0.5 is stock RedHat 5.0.
After setting up an IP address on a dummy interface (as a module), I can ping the machine locally, and I can set up sockets (f.ex. telnet) to another machine via SLIP, but from the other machine I can't ping back.
Also, after tearing down an interface, it stays active (pingable) for a while.
Anybody else seen this, it's my imagination, egcs is running wild?
