Hello, thanks for answering.
I followed your advice, here's the batch file I use to boot Linux with
the line you suggested (I use loadlin exclusively):

@echo off
smartdrv /C
loadlin c:\linux\kernel\zimage root=/dev/hda2 ro hdc=cdrom ide1=1e8

This still doesn't work though; I've included parts of the
/var/adm/messages file pertaining to the last bootup:

--------------------------------------------------------------
Kernel logging (proc) started.
ide1: hdc: cdrom

<snip, snip>
Sound initialization started
snd2 <SoundBlaster 16 4.13> at 0x220 irq 7 drq 1
snd6 <SoundBlaster 16 4.13> at 0x220 irq 7 drq 5
snd7 <SoundBlaster MPU-401> at 0x330 irq 7 drq 0
snd1 <Yamaha OPL-3 FM> at 0x388 irq 0 drq 0
Sound initialization complete
hda: ST51080A, 1033MB w/256KB Cache, LBA, CHS=525/64/63, MaxMult=32
hdc: IRQ probe failed (0)
hdc: IRQ probe failed (0)
hdc: ATAPI cdrom (?)
ide1: secondary interface on irq 15
ide0: primary interface on irq 14

<snip, snip>
--------------------------------------------------------------

You'll notice that the SoundBlaster was correctly detected (using a TASD
3.05 VoxWare driver). When I boot the PC under DOS, I get the following
info from MSCDEX about the CD-ROM: it's an Oak Technology OTI-11 CD420A,
IRQ 7, port 1E8. Actually, It's connected to the SB16 card, not some odd
IDE interface. I think the reason why the kernel sees two IDE interfaces
(ide0, ide1) is that the IDE controller is an EIDE PCI type on the
motherboard (no card).

I'm not *really* sure if the CDROM is ATAPI, the Creative stuff on their
site claims it's `IDE,' whatever that is ;)

Anyway, you'll notice that the CDROM uses the same IRQ as the Sound
Blaster; the BLASTER environment variable under DOS is

BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 P330 T6

Any (more) ideas would be welcome...
Thanks!
