This can be triggered by causing the SCSI device to be lost, found, and lost again:

I tested on v5.4 and no such issue, but maybe the driver core changes have exposed a ses/enclosure issue.

This has device_del(&cdev->cdev) followed by device_add(&cdev->cdev).
This cdev.dev memory looks to be dynamically allocated for the lifetime of the enclosure_device.
