I think this does't work well as it loses the -
in various vendor prefixes:

"^si-linux,.*":
"^tbs-biometrics,.*":

Perhaps the grep should be something like: (untested)

`grep -Eq "\\"\\^\Q$vendor\E,\\.\\*\\":" $vp_file`;
